Channels Report

August
On a very windy and frequently very wet Sunday the men's
section of Channels Golf Club competed in their Club
Championship on August the 29th.
The main event, The Club Championship was played over 36
holes. The winner was Tony Wealls who shot a 74 in the
morning and a 77 in the very wet afternoon totalling 151.
Tom Barker was second with his 80, 75, 155 followed in third
place by
Jamie Head with 80, 78, 158.
Also played off scratch but limited to players of 7.5
handicap and above was the new "Lodge Trophy". This 18 hole
competition was won by Phil Roberts who returned a score of
gross 79. Chris Evans came in second on 82 gross The Club
Captain, Paul Cooper, made third place with his 83 gross.
Earlier in the week the ladies played for the Edwina Smith
Trophy. The winning score of 37 points was returned by three
ladies which was sorted on countback to put Vera Simmons as
winner followed by Linda Crisp in second place
and Lynn Fazzani in third spot.
Going back to the 20th of this month, August; the ladies'
Silver 1 team lost out 4 - 3, one match going to the 18th
and a second one to the 19th hole, to Warley Park Golf
Club who now go through the finals of their group.
On Bank Holiday Monday it was time for the "Mixed Charity
Day" .The competition was played as a 4BBB with the Better
Ball score from the ladies being added to the Better-Ball
score from the men. The winning team was that of Diana
Reeve, Joan Charlton, Dave Hammersley and John Charlton who
scored 87 points. Second place went to Jane Tytler, Maxime
Dowman, Ray Tytler and Bob Dowman on 85 points followed by
Diane Lyons, Judie Dunbar, Frank Lyons and Bill Dunbar who
scored 84 points.
43 points was the score of both ladies and gents pairs that
were not in a winning team. Alan Collins and Andy Packer for
the men and Pam Pamphilon and Jenny Humphries for the
ladies. Other prizes awarded went to the "Nearest the Pin"
at the 8th hole (Men only), John O'Brien. N.P. at the 12th
(Ladies only), Hilary Steen. N.P. at the 17th (Men &
Ladies) Mike Steen and Lesley Thomas.
The day was bought to a close with dinner and the prize
presentation having collected some £200 towards the
Captain's Charity
