Channels Report 14th July

Channels' Ladies Silver 2 team played at home on Wednesday 9th against Nazeing and lost 3-2, two of the matches being lost at the 18th however the team which will include some if not all of this team of Ann Malyon, Suzanne Mitchell, Diana Reeve, Claire Woollard and Jacky Thompson does go through to the semi-final against Upminster on August 10th. The neutral venue is to be announced.

The ladies July  Monthly Medal completed on Thursday the 10th was won by Jacky Thompso in the Silver Division with a score of gross 83 and off her then 16 handicap, a nett 67. A handicap reduction of 3 to 13. Claire Woollard  was second with 88 - 17 - 71. In the Bronze Division the winner was Janet Battle who scored a gross 101, h/c 31 and nett 70 plus a cut in handicap to 28.. Lynda Brownlie was second with 99 - 28 - 71.  The rather high competition scratch of 75 has cut quite a few handicaps this month.

Channels Golf Club gentlemen members played their Monthly Medal this last weekend in warm but quite windy conditions. In Division 1 the winner was Phil Smith with a net 69 off his 8 handicap, in second place was Robert Tredgett with a net 70 of his plus 1 handicap, and third place went to Mark Daw with a net 71 of his 12 handicap.

In Division 2 the winner on count back was Steve Wellstead with a net 68 off his 19 handicap, in runner up position was Stephen Clow with a net 68 off his 19 handicap, and third place went to Nick Blackwell with a net70 off his 14 handicap. The scratch prize was won by Robert Tredgett with an excellent 69 gross.

In the Regional qualifying competition at Old Fold Manor for the Open golf competition, Channels’ Craig Housden recently won his way to the Local final qualifying competition at Hillside, Southport with a score of 70. However against a strong field on a demanding course he was unsuccessful in gaining one of the four qualifying places.
