This week the Channels ladies competed in their Edwina Smith Trophy on Thursday September 27th. Beryl Perry was the winner with 37 points playing off her 25 handicap but only on count back from 15 handicapper, Sue Scott. Diane Reeve came in third place with 35 points.

The ladies are making a habit of "Holes in One". This time it was Elaine Jewitt, Lady Vice Captain, that found the hole with her tee shot at the 12th. Congratulations,

On to Sunday and the men's 36 hole Handicap Cup. This stableford competition was won by Geoff McKeown (9 h/c) with 78 points. Toby Scott (16 h/c) in second place with 77 points followed by Scott Wagstaff (3 h/c) on 75 and last in the frame, Dave Perry ( 16 h/c) with 74 points to take fourth place.

LOCAL RULES----PLEASE NOTE RULE 3(e).


CHANNELS COURSE - LOCAL RULES ( Revised 13th July 2006 )

1. Play must stop on the 1st, 2nd, 7th & 14th holes whilst vehicles, animals and pedestrians pass on the private Right of Way.

2. Out of Bounds (Rule 27-1)
(a) Beyond any fence, hedge, line of white stakes bounding the course
(b) On or over any roads bounding the course

3. Water Hazards (Rule 26)
(a) Water hazards indicated by Yellow Posts
(b) The lake to the front of the 17th tee
(c) Lateral water hazards indicated by Red Posts.
(d) Only when playing the 12th, the lake to left is a lateral water hazard .
(e) Only when playing the 12th, the hazard to the right of the green is a lateral water hazard.

4. Ground Under Repair ( Rule 25-1 )
(a) Areas defined by white lines or GUR markers. Relief must be taken.
(b) Areas of course work not repaired

5. Obstructions (Rule 24)
(a) Stones in bunkers may be removed without penalty (Rule 24-1 applies)
(b) Internal roads and paths are immovable obstructions and relief may be taken, without penalty. (Rule 24-2b applies)
(c) Staked trees. If a ball is lying so that a staked tree interferes with the players stance or intended line of swing relief must be taken. (Rule 24-2b applies)

6. Fixed Sprinkler Heads ( Rule 24-2 )
All fixed sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions and relief from interference by them may be obtained under Rule 24-2. In addition, if such an obstruction on or within two club-lengths of the putting green on the hole being played intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief, without penalty as follows:
If the balls lies off the putting green but not in a hazard and is within two club–lengths of the intervening obstruction, it may be lifted, cleaned and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay which is (a) not nearer the hole, (b) avoids such intervention and (c) is not in a hazard or on a putting green.
